Kakuro

Play Kakuro free online: fill every white cell with a digit from 1 to 9 so that each across and down run sums to its clue with no repeated digit. Nine hand-verified puzzles across easy, medium and hard tiers, with undo, restart and a three-cell hint budget. No download, no sign-up.

Play Kakuro

Tap a white cell to select it, then tap a digit or type 1-9; Backspace, Delete or 0 clears the cell. Arrow keys move the selection between white cells. A run that is filled but sums to the wrong number turns red, and a digit repeated inside a run turns amber, so you can check your work without a solver. Work the tight clues first: a three-cell run with clue 6 can only be 1+2+3, and clue 24 can only be 7+8+9, while a clue in the middle of the range has a dozen possible combinations. Undo steps back one entry, Restart reloads the puzzle, Hint reveals one correct cell (three per puzzle), and the arrow buttons move between puzzles inside a tier.

Objective: Fill every white cell with one digit from 1 to 9 so that inside each run — a straight line of white cells ended by a black cell — no digit repeats and the digits add up to that run's clue. A black cell can carry two clues: the number in its top-right triangle is the sum of the white cells to its right, the number in its bottom-left triangle is the sum of the white cells below it. The puzzle is solved when every run matches its clue. There are nine puzzles in three tiers — easy (16 cells), medium (20) and hard (30) — and each one was verified to have exactly one solution before it shipped. Controls: Tap a white cell (mouse, touch or pen, all handled as one tap) to select it, then tap a digit on the keypad or type 1-9; tap the X button or press Backspace to clear. Arrow keys move the selection, wrapping around the grid. Buttons: tier (easy / medium / hard), previous / next puzzle, Undo, Hint, Restart and Rules. The HUD shows the tier, which puzzle you are on, how many of the cells are filled and how many hints are left. Keyboard and touch follow the same code path.

Source and license

The kakuro mechanic — fill white cells so every run sums to its clue with no repeated digit — has no single author, so this build is written from scratch by Playnesta with no byte-reused upstream files. The rules engine (js/engine.js: run extraction, the candidate and sum-feasibility solver behind the hint budget, conflict detection and the solved check), the frozen puzzle library (js/puzzles.js: nine offline-generated puzzles, each proven to admit exactly one completion), the shell (js/main.js), the stylesheet, the analytics bridge and the touch shim are all Playnesta-original (MIT, see LICENSE.txt in the package). During selection (2026-10-16) the certified upstream search came back with no self-hostable interactive base: taylorjg/dlxlib-demos ships no licence, senegrom/GridPuzzle is AGPL-3.0, and billstclair/kakuro-master (MIT, Copyright Bill St. Clair) is a Cordova/PhoneGap project rather than a plain static build, so it is recorded as a mechanism reference only — no bytes are copied and no file under its licence is redistributed. Playnesta Games is the developer and publisher of this web implementation. https://github.com/billstclair/kakuro-master · MIT
