Equation Guess
Play Equation Guess online, Playnesta's daily whole-equation deduction game. Crack the secret eight-character equation in six tries: every guess must itself be a real equation, green marks a character in the right slot, yellow a character that belongs somewhere else and gray a character whose copies are all used up. Multiplication and division come before addition and subtraction, so the order you read the row is not the order the maths runs — free in your browser, no download.
Play Equation Guess
The secret is an eight-character equation such as 12+35=47 or 9*8-5=67. Build a guess with the on-screen keypad or a physical keyboard and press Enter. Your guess is checked before it is scored: it must contain exactly one = and be a genuine equation, with whole numbers that do not start with 0, multiplication and division before addition and subtraction, no fractions, no negative intermediate results and a positive whole-number answer. If it fails, the row shakes and nothing is scored. When it passes, each of the eight characters is scored with the two-pass rule: a green tile is a character in the right slot; a yellow tile is a character that belongs somewhere else in the equation; a gray tile means every copy of that character is used up, so it is a complete elimination. Characters may repeat (the = appears once, but digits and operators can repeat), and because the = can sit in any column, a guess is not just the answer with letters swapped. You get six rows. Solve it and the tiles turn green and dance; run out of rows and the equation is revealed. The opening equation is the daily one, the same for everyone until local midnight; the New equation button at the bottom deals a random one, and an equation can be pinned with a ?code=12%2B35%3D47 link.

Objective: Crack the secret eight-character equation in six guesses. Every guess must be a valid equation: exactly one =, whole numbers with no leading zeros, only + - * / between them, no fractions and no negative results. Green means the right character in the right slot, yellow means the character is in the equation but sits in another slot, and gray means every copy of that character is already accounted for. Controls: Tap or click the on-screen keypad (0-9, plus, minus, times, divide, equals, Enter, backspace) or type on a physical keyboard; press Enter to submit the row and Backspace/Delete to rub out a character. On a phone the keypad sits under the board and the New equation button is pinned to the bottom edge.
