Reaction Time Test

Play the free online reaction time test: wait for the red pad to turn green, then tap as fast as you can. A set of five rounds gives your average and best reaction in milliseconds. Tapping before green is a wrong click that voids and re-deals the round. Free in your browser, no download, no sign-up.

Play Reaction Time Test

Tap the pad once to begin a set. The pad turns red and reads Wait — a random 1.5 to 3.0 seconds later it flips to green (TAP!), and your reaction timer starts. Tap as soon as you see green; your time in milliseconds shows, then the next round begins automatically. Tapping while the pad is still red is a wrong click: that round is voided and re-dealt, the too-soon taps are counted and shown at the end, and they never consume one of the five rounds. The random gap is seeded, so adding ?seed=anything to the page URL replays the exact same five gaps. After five rounds the results card shows the set average and the fastest tap, and your best tap ever is kept locally on this device. Tap the pad (or New set) to start a fresh set at any time.

Objective: Measure how fast you react on this device. Each set is five rounds: a full-screen pad turns green, and you tap the instant it does; your time from green to tap is recorded in milliseconds. When the five rounds are done the set shows your average and your single fastest tap. Reflex is a skill to warm up, so take a few practise taps first and then chase a lower average. Controls: A single tap or click anywhere on the pad is the only input — green means tap, red means wait. The pad responds to the pointer (mouse, touch or pen) as one unified pointerdown, so a mouse click and a finger tap are treated identically. Buttons: New set (start over) and Rules. The set progress and running average stay in the top-right HUD; a results card with average, best and the wrong-click count appears when a set ends.

Source and license

The mechanism — wait a random interval, a pad turns green, measure the response — has no single author, so this build is written from scratch by Playnesta with no byte-reused upstream files. The engine (js/main.js: the splitmix32 seeded PRNG, the random gap, the millisecond measurement, the wrong-click rule and the five-round set), the stylesheet, the analytics bridge and the touch shim are all Playnesta-original (MIT, see LICENSE.txt in the package). The closest upstream single-file implementation, himanshusapkota/Reaction-Time-Test @ 176346b (MIT, Copyright 2025 Himanshu Sapkota), was read in full during selection but is only a single-shot timer and is recorded as the mechanism reference — no bytes are copied and no file under its MIT license is redistributed. This page shows only the measured times of the current device and this device's local best; it deliberately makes no population-average claims. Playnesta Games is the developer and publisher of this web implementation. https://github.com/himanshusapkota/Reaction-Time-Test · MIT
