Last updated: September 23, 2026 · Tested on Playnesta's Type Sprint build (upstream sayantanm19/js-simple-typing-game @ 36b8640) · Goal: most correct characters in 60 seconds
Method: every rule below was verified against this site's playable build — constants read from the shipped game (TIME_LIMIT 60 seconds, 6-quote rotating bank with roll-over, live WPM/CPM/errors/accuracy header, per-character green/red spans, finishGame settlement posting CPM = chars/elapsed*60 and WPM = (chars/5)/elapsed*60, restart button re-opens a fresh 60s run, refocusing the textarea restarts the timer), a headless-browser check focused the box, typed a full quote with zero errors, confirmed the settlement readout, the replay bar, bridge load/start/win/restart events, and zero errors at 390px mobile width with no sideways scroll. Controls: type on a physical keyboard on desktop, or tap Tap-to-type to open the system keyboard on touch screens. A 60-second typing race, rebuilt here as Type Sprint.

1. Stay in the box — refocusing restarts the run

Focusing the text box calls startGame, which resets and restarts the 60-second timer every time. Clicking away mid-run to check the time or scroll wipes your progress. Once the timer starts, keep the cursor in the box until it hits zero; treat the 60 seconds as one uninterrupted sprint.

2. Chase accuracy first, speed follows

WPM is computed from all typed characters divided by five and by elapsed time — every error you type still counts as a character but drags accuracy down without adding correct output. At beginner speeds, cutting errors from 10 to 2 per run raises both WPM and accuracy more than typing 10% faster. Type at the pace where you make almost no mistakes, then let speed build.

3. Flow through errors instead of stopping

There is no backspace penalty logic — the per-character spans mark mistakes red and keep going, and finishing the quote loads the next one automatically. Stopping to stare at a red letter burns a full second for zero gain. Note the error, keep your rhythm, and let the next correct characters dilute it.

4. Finish quotes to keep the conveyor moving

A fully typed quote — errors included — immediately advances to the next quote and clears the input, so a completed imperfect quote always beats a stalled perfect one. Short quotes are free momentum: clear them fast and bank the characters. Never sit on a finished line wondering about mistakes.

5. Restart clean, not tilted

A bad opening (two errors in the first words) poisons the whole run's rhythm — hit Restart in the first ten seconds and open fresh rather than salvaging. But after the halfway mark, always finish: partial runs teach nothing about closing out the last ten seconds when fingers tire. One clean restart per session maximum, then commit.

FAQ

How is WPM calculated?

WPM = (all typed characters / 5) / elapsed minutes, posted when the 60-second timer ends alongside CPM, error count and accuracy.

What happens when I finish a quote?

The next quote loads automatically and the input clears — keep typing without pause.

Why did my timer restart?

Refocusing the text box restarts the 60-second run by design. Stay in the box until time expires.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes — tap Tap-to-type to open the system keyboard; typing travels the same code path as a physical keyboard, and the layout fits 390px viewports with no sideways scroll.

Where can I play it?

Right on this site's type-sprint page. The game is a self-hosted modification of the MIT-licensed js-simple-typing-game by sayantanm19; license and attribution are listed under the game.
