1. Jump late, not early — your leap only carries ~350px
The dinosaur's jump covers roughly 350 pixels of ground and hangs in the air just under a second, while it runs at about 400 pixels per second. Jumping the moment a cactus appears on the right edge means you land right on top of it. Wait until the cluster is about one jump-reach away — roughly a third of the screen — then press Space. Late jumps clear; early jumps donate points to the cactus.
2. Hold Space to chain hops — land and go again instantly
Keep Space held down and the dinosaur jumps again the instant it touches the ground — no need to re-press for each leap. This turns back-to-back clusters from a panic into a rhythm: hold through the whole cluster field, release only when the ground ahead is clear. On the touch pad, press-and-hold JUMP works the same way.
3. Treat a 1-3 cluster as one obstacle, not three
Cacti spawn in clusters of one to three, spaced at least 400 pixels apart — each cluster is exactly one jump wide at most. Never try to land between cacti inside a cluster; there is no room and the collision box shows no mercy. One committed leap per cluster, aimed past its far edge, beats two hopeful hops every time.
4. Score is pure distance — survival is the only lever
There are no coins, no powerups, no bonus zones: the score ticks up with every pixel you survive. That makes every tip above a scoring tip — each extra second alive is points no trick can replace. Don't showboat with last-moment jumps for style; the safe middle-distance leap scores exactly the same and crashes far less.
5. Crash, restart, repeat — the fast loop is the practice
A crash ends the run (the dino's wide-eyed look says it all) and there is no in-page restart: tap the restart pad (or reload) and you are running again in a second. Use that: ten focused 30-second runs teach the timing faster than one careful 5-minute run, because the early stretch — where every beginner dies — repeats ten times instead of once.
FAQ
How do I start?
Press Space (or tap JUMP on mobile). The same button jumps once you are running, so the start press doubles as your first leap — be ready for the first cactus.
Why did I die when I clearly jumped over it?
Almost always an early jump: you landed on the cluster's far cactus instead of past it. Jump later — when the cluster is about a third of the screen away — and aim past its far edge.
How do I restart after crashing?
Tap the on-screen restart pad (desktop: reload the game frame). Your last score stays on screen for reference while the new run starts fresh.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes — tap JUMP to start and leap (press-and-hold to chain hops), tap the restart pad after a crash. The 800-pixel court scales to viewports as narrow as 390px with no sideways scroll.
Where can I play it?
Right on this site's dino-dash page. The game is a self-hosted modification of the MIT-licensed Dinosaur-Chrome-Game by CloudCannon; license and attribution are listed under the game.
